Dr Mustafa’s Veterinary Clinic was awarded the 2014 Whyalla Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year honour for its outstanding service to the community.

Owner/operator Mustafa Bozkurt said he was “absolutely shocked” to have won the award.

2014 marks the second time in six years Dr Bozkurt has won the chamber’s business of the year award.

Dr Bozkurt said to win the award a second time was “phenomenal”.

“Again it’s just amazing to be nominated and considered worthy,” he said.

“It’s what I love and what I do – I do something I enjoy, I am blessed to have staff that feel the same way.

“We enjoy coming to work and it’s just what we do.”

Dr Bozkurt has been a veterinarian for nearly 23 years and said the opportunity to become one really drew him in.

He said although being a vet had become his career and love; he was not always drawn to its appeal.

“As a young kid I was more interested in aeronautics and aerospace and things in that field,” Dr Bozkurt said.

“The opportunity didn’t really exist in Australia and I sort of looked at what else took my interest and came across a vet and I thought ‘that’s great – I want to do that’.

“It was a diversion from physics and space and it’s not a decision that I ever regretted – I’ve enjoyed it and I still love doing what I do.”

Dr Bozkurt said it was an amazing feeling to wake up in the morning and look forward to going to work everyday.

He said he wanted to thank his dedicated staff for all of their continued efforts.

“We keep plugging along – every day is a new day,” Dr Bozkurt said.

“I couldn’t do what I do without them and the public as well.

“The public nominate us and think that we are worthy which is very humbling.”
