The Whyalla Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month Award has now completed this current cycle and we now move towards our prestigious 2014 Chamber Awards Dinner, to be held at the Westland Hotel, on Friday 10th October
From the Chamber’s perspective our Awards Dinner climaxes the past 12 monthly awards, in which we now see those recipients go through to be judged for the major award of “Outstanding Business of the Year”.
Over the years, this award has brought a number of benefits to those who have won this prestigious title.
For example, staff within these organisations have a feeling of accomplishment for the role they have played, business owners are recognised for their management and vision and it has provided a platform to use this award within the business’s advertising campaigns to promote their achievement and recognition.
The Chamber would also like to thank our media partners in 5AU/Magic105.9FM, Whyalla News and Austereo Southern Cross TV, for their continued support and combined advertising package valued at $4500, for the recipient of the Outstanding Business of the Year.
The Chamber has always had the view that our business awards are there to recognize and promote those businesses that provide a positive experience to the customer in a way that they (the customer), have wanted to nominate them in the first instance for our Business of the Month.
The other point is, that individual businesses in Whyalla, should consider having the nomination form available at their counter, for example, and ask customers if they felt their shopping experience was a positive one, then a form could be handed to them for consideration of nominating the business for the monthly award.
It is my view said Mr Hay that a great number of businesses do not consider this type of approach, based on a misunderstanding that you have to be a member of the Chamber to receive an award, which is not the case.
The nominations come from the public, who do business with them.
In addition to the Outstanding Business of the Year, we also have a number of other awards on the night, which include Trainee of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, Employer of the Year and also a new category in Shop Assistant of the Year, which has been brought about by the new partnership between the chamber and the Rotary Club of Whyalla Norrie.
Our guest speaker for this event is Melody Horrill, who people will remember from her time as a journalist and weather presenter with Channel 7, until her departure last year. Mr Hay said during her career, Melody also spent some time with Central Television, however her most recent venture was to set up her own boutique media and PR consultancy.
We have found in the past, that as guest presenters, media personalities sometimes share with you those funny little situations that may not have been captured on camera.
So we may look forward to what the night might hold.
Last year’s Awards Dinner saw 170 guests and sponsors turn out for what was truly a great night, and we believe that this year’s event will be better than last year, due to the additional award category and the nominees that will attend.
