The 2015 Regional Awards launched in the Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula region yesterday, with a Brand South Australia lunch held at The Whyalla Foreshore Hotel to mark the event.
According to Brand South Australia Events Coordinator Kirrilee Hay, the Regional Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the incredible work of individual people and community groups in regional areas, as well as a way of celebrating success in business.
“The program has been growing year on year and 2014 saw record-breaking success,” she told the media representatives and community leaders in attendance.
“Last year we received 2,346 nominations and 646 entries across South Australia. Of those, 284 nominations and 84 entries came from the Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula region.
“We awarded 259 individuals, organisations and businesses for their contribution to the regions and achieved a massive $1 million of media exposure for the program.”
Last year’s Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula winners included Community House. Community House in Port Lincoln has significantly helped clients through rehabilitating their lives; along with fundraising for the region and providing numerous community services. Community House offers a wide range of services, including emergency relief for families; a meeting place for men who are retired, unemployed, unwell or with disabilities; advocacy for domestic violence, homeless or disadvantaged persons; health and wellbeing classes; free internet for seniors and youth; hosting of Suicide Bereavement, Domestic Violence and Dsylexia groups, a variety of training courses and an Op Shop.
Another winner was Mocean Cafe Restaurant, a Streaky Bay treasure! Offering a unique combination of casual cafe and relaxed fine dining, Mocean is positioned on absolute waterfront and specialises in creative fresh, regional produce. Recent years have seen the introduction of an Organic Health Food range, a refining of their function, wedding and catering packages, and constant attention to their daily specials and development of signature dishes. A true passion for food, the use of local, fair trade and sustainable produce, and a genuine caring for their customers, has established Mocean Cafe as a truly special experience.
