PRELIMINARY FINKEL REVIEW REPORT WELCOMED
- All options in the Finkel Review must remain on the table to ensure the national electricity market transitions to low carbon at least possible cost
- Business SA implores State and Federal Governments to cooperate on energy and climate policy and listen to the broader business sector’s needs
Business SA welcomes today’s preliminary report of the independent Finkel Review of Australia’s electricity market transition to a low carbon future.
Following Business SA’s blackout survey results which were also released today, it is timely to consider the need for the national electricity market transition which ensures both reliable and affordable electricity.
“Before the September blackout, Business SA had been a strong advocate for an independent review to examine the factors behind SA’s high wholesale electricity prices which, when combined with reliability concerns, have been pummelling the State’s business sector for the past 18 months,” Executive Director, Industry and Government Engagement, Anthony Penney, said today.
Business SA agrees with the preliminary Finkel report that we have a once in a generation opportunity to reform the National Electricity Market (NEM) to make it more resilient to the challenges of change.
