President of the Whyalla Chamber of Commerce, Mr Ron Hay, said the Whyalla Chamber will celebrate its 70th Anniversary this year and is also delighted that a new award category would be part of this year’s Annual Awards Dinner, to be held on Friday 10th October.
We (the Chamber) are pleased to announce that a new partnership with the Rotary Club of Whyalla Norrie, will see the introduction of the Shop Assistant of the Year Award, which will not only recognize those individuals within our retail industry, but will also bring this award alongside our other prestigious business and individual awards, which are presented at our Annual Awards Dinner, said Mr Hay.
The Rotary Club of Whyalla Norrie has over a number of years, engaged with the retail community, promoting their Shop Assistant award and now that we have formed this partnership, it fits very nicely with the overall arrangement of our dinner and other awards, said Mr Hay.
As consumers, we go into retail and service outlets, interacting with those employees who work there and assist us on a day to day basis, so it is appropriate that we recognize them in a formal manner and the Shop Assistant of the Year award does just that.
It is also pleasing, that nominees for this award category will be part of a much larger event which is attended by not only the business community in Whyalla said Mr Hay, but also representatives from Council, Regional Development Australia Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula and our corporate sponsors, which in turn provides significant exposure to both nominees and the resultant recipient.
The Whyalla Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is an organization that has represented the business interests of the Whyalla business sector for 70 years and is well regarded amongst other Chambers within the region.
Mr Hay said, it is not uncommon to receive a phone call to discuss for example our awards, nominations and the processes we use to determine who should be awarded these prestigious awards. It is pleasing that we are being recognized for what we are achieving in this area.
Our 2013 dinner, witnessed a very different environment into which our guests stepped into, with an increased level of audio visual presentation and a themed colour scheme that supported our Diamond Sponsor’s corporate colours.
This year said Mr Hay, guests can be assured that we will be again looking to maintain a similar approach and due to our 70th celebrations, look to see what else we can add in, to increase the experience for all who attend.
We are currently negotiating with a well-known personality, who will be our guest speaker for the evening. When this is finalised we will commence promoting our Annual Awards Dinner with our local media.
Mr Hay said, to celebrate our 70th Year is a major milestone in the Chamber’s history and is a credit to the members and Executive members, both past and present, for their time and effort that has been put into the Chamber over this period, to make it what it is today.
Our Annual Awards Dinner will be held at the Westland Hotel on Friday 10th October, 2014 and will come around faster than most will think, so we (the Chamber) look forward to the business community getting this date into their diaries and once again joining with us and our sponsors, for what will be once again, a great night.
