Sebastian Hams, Partner – KordaMentha Restructuring has requested the posting of the following message from the ATO to Arrium Whyalla creditors.
ATO support for small business in Whyalla experiencing financial difficulty
The ATO recognises that individuals and businesses can experience financial difficulties due to challenging business conditions or unexpected events, and takes an empathetic approach to working with these individuals and businesses to get them back on track.
We are supporting the Whyalla community as it faces challenges associated with Arrium entering into administration.
To those who can’t meet their tax payment obligations, we are offering supportive repayment arrangements and remission of interest where appropriate.
Registered tax and BAS agents can call 13 72 86 (fast key code 1, 2, 2) from 8.00am to 6.00pm weekdays and from 10.00am to 4.00pm Saturday to discuss their clients’ situation. Individuals can call 13 11 42 and businesses can call 13 28 66 should they wish to discuss their situation directly with the ATO.
For debts under $100,000, individuals and sole traders who wish to deal with their own affairs can go to ato.gov.au to set up a payment plan using our online service. Alternatively they can seek assistance from their registered agent.
We encourage local business to lodge their BAS (either themselves or through their registered agent) on time, even if they can’t pay, so that we understand how much support they need.Payment terms can be worked out later.
We are working closely with the SA Small Business Commissioner and are currently planning to visit the Whyalla community to outline the support available from the ATO.
We look forward to working with you to get the best possible outcome for your clients during this challenging time.
