Federal Member for Grey, Rowan Ramsey is strongly advocating for local businesses from his electorate to have the prospect to tender for opportunities available through the Defence Cultana Training Area redevelopment. The total expenditure on this project is expected to reach almost $80m and to be split into two main contracts.
Supplementary to the Defence forums held late last year in Port Augusta and Whyalla; where by local businesses were invited to find out more about the Defence Cultana Training Area redevelopment project, are some links to additional information to ensure businesses who wish to tender are aware of the procurement requirements which the Defence department are obliged to follow.
These requirements (and links to information about them) include:
- Workplace Gender Equality – www.wgea.gov.au;
- Indigenous Opportunities – www.employment.gov.au/indigenous-opportunities-policy;
- Building Code 2013 – http://www.fwbc.gov.au/building-code/ and their Hotline is 1800 003 338;
- OHS Accreditation Scheme – http://www.fsc.gov.au/sites/FSC
Businesses also need to ensure they are registered with AusTender for notification of business opportunities and planned procurements. Information about this is available at:
- AusTender – www.tenders.gov.au
General information about the Defence Cultana Expansion Area Project is available at: http://www.defence.gov.au/id/cultana%5Cdefault.asp
Businesses interested in tendering are urged to ensure their business is compliant with these requirements.
Local businesses are also being encourage to register interest with Rowan Ramsey’s office so there is an awareness of businesses who may wish to be involved.
This can be done by phoning 1300 301 742 or emailing email@example.com
By doing so, this will assist in providing the names of interested local contractors to the headline contractors and give the Federal Member an opportunity to highlight the advantages of using the local skilled workforce, not just for efficiency in construction but because over the life of the project, intimate knowledge of the build will provide for more efficient and better quality servicing. It will also allow the opportunity to provide information to those businesses in the timeliest manner.
